July 1994 - Devotees Fast outside Liberal Democrats Party HQ

Leader of Liberal Democrats, Paddy Ashdown MP, faced criticism from the Hindu community and their supporters due to perceived hostility towards the Hindu community at the local level. This apparent hostility was exacerbated by the behavior of the party’s MPs who ignored appeals to collaborate with their counterparts from the Labour and Conservative parties. The situation escalated when rebel councilors Jeremy Shaw and Bety Wright opposed a planning permission request to convert a pub into a mosque, as reported by the Daily Mirror in April.
In response to these actions, Hindu devotees protested by fasting and holding a vigil outside the Liberal Democrats' party headquarters located on Cowley Street in London.
