Prior to 1989, Bhaktivedanta Manor in the UK encountered a series of historical challenges. These issues included zoning conflicts, local opposition, and regulatory hurdles that impacted the temple’s establishment and operations. Despite these obstacles, the community persevered, demonstrating resilience and determination in upholding their religious and cultural space. -
Celebrity-backed Fundraising Campaign

Launch of Hare Krishna Temple Defense Movement
The Hare Krishna Temple Defense Movement (HKTDM) was established to support and protect Bhaktivedanta Manor from potential closures. Our campaign adopted the motto "Mam Anusmara Yudhya - Remember me and Fight," echoing Lord Krishna's message to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita (8:7). -
Rally at Trafalgar Square
A crowd of two thousand individuals and devotees gathered at Trafalgar Square for a rally aimed at raising awareness. The event featured several speeches addressing the cause. -
Labour Meetings at Blackpool & Brighton
Members of the HKTDM Committee attended Labour Party conferences in Blackpool and Brighton, where they engaged with numerous Members of Parliament (MPs). Anoop Jalota Performed in a Temple Charity Concert
Anoop Jalota traveled from India to London for a concert aimed at fundraising for the campaign. A substantial number of devotees and members from the Hindu community attended the event, enjoying his rendition of bhajans (devotional songs). -
